Luca Barcellona è nato a Milano nel 1978. La sua carriera artistica inizia nel 1994, come writer. Il focus principale del suo lavoro è lo studio e l’evoluzione del lettering. Nel 2000 comincia i suoi studi di calligrafia presso l’ACI. Il suo percorso include inoltre lo studio della storia della tipografia e del type design. Nel 2003 crea, insieme a Rae Martini e Marco Klefisch, Rebel Ink. E’ l’inizio di esibizioni live di calligrafia, writing e illustrazione in giro per il mondo, l’ultima a Praga al Names Fest con i più grandi artisti della street culture. Insegna ed è membro dell’Associazione Calligrafica Italiana. Attualmente lavora come graphic designer e calligrafo freelance. Ha collaborato con vari artisti e fotografi sia nella moda che nella pubblicità oltre che per Adidas, Dolce & Gabbana, Smart, Volvo, Seat, Fiat, Stone Island, Gold, Iuter, Ogilvy & Mather, Emi Music, Sony Bmg, Universal, Vice, Reebok, Nike, Zoo York, Carhartt, Eni. I suoi lavori sono stati pubblicati in molti libri tra i quali “Calligraphy and Graphic Design” di Marco Campedelli e fra gli ultimi “Los Logos 5” e “Playful Type 2” per Gestalten Books, e il magazine Letter Arts Review gli ha recentemente dedicato un lungo speciale. Le sue esibizione più recenti sono in mostre collettive a Milano, Den Haag (Olanda), Monaco, Sydney/Melbourne (Australia). Nel 2009 è stato chiamato dal Museo Nazionale di Zurigo per la riproduzione fedele di un antico mappamondo del 1500, per scrivere tutte le informazioni geografiche con gli strumenti medievali originali. Ha recentemente prodotto la sua linea personale di abbigliamento “Luca Barcellona Gold Series”. Luca Barcellona was born in Milan in 1978. His artistic career sets off in 1994, as a writer. His main focus has been on the evolving aspect and on the study of lettering. From 2000 he commences his studies on calligraphy at ACI. His achievements also include his studying of history of typography and type design.In 2003 he creates, together with Rae Martini and Marco Klefisch, Rebel Ink. This is the beginning of a live exhibition of calligraphy, writing and illustrations with a lot of performance around the world, last one in Prague at Names Fest with the biggest artists of “street culture”.He teaches and is member of the Italian Calligraphy Association.At present he works as a graphic artist and freelance calligrapher. He has work together with various artists and photographers as well as fashion and advertising companies such as Adidas, Dolce & Gabbana,, Smart, Volvo, Seat, Fiat, Stone Island, Gold, Iuter, Ogilvy & Mather, Emi Music, Sony Bmg, Universal, Vice, Reebok, Nike, Zoo York, Carhartt, Eni.He teamed up with Ivana Tubaro for the realization of the books ‘Delle Lettere’, and with Marco Campedelli’s “Calligraphy and Graphic Design”. His works has been published on many books including the forthcoming Los Logos 5 and Playful Type 2 for Gestalten books, and the Magazine Letter Arts Review who recently dedicated him a big special.His most recent exhibitions are the collectives in Milan, Den Haag (Holland) and in Sydney/Melbourne (Australia).In 2009 he’s been called from the National Museum of Zurich for the reproduction of an old age globe from 1500, to write all the geographical information’s with original medieval tools. He has recently produced his own personal clothing brand “Luca Barcellona Gold Serries”
